Tell me, my dear,
when you listen to yourself
speaking about yourself,
what do you hear?
Is it sweet music to your ears,
or is it, as I fear, something else?
What lies do you believe about yourself,
in your heart of hearts?
What do you feel in your deepest parts?
What do you know so well that it’s etched in your bones?
What do you own about yourself
that should really belong to someone else?
Now inhale, breathe in deep,
then let all that seep out of you.
Exhale it into the shape of a balloon,
tie a string on the end,
and finish it with a bow,
